How GLS Helped Jessica Build Her Skills and Launch Her Own Practice

When Jessica transitioned from hospital work to outpatient therapy, she felt like a beginner all over again. “I was feeling very green, starting over in a whole different end of the field,” she recalled. She needed a strong foundation to effectively treat orthopedic patients — and that’s where Great Lakes Seminars came in.

Building a Strong Framework

“GLS courses have really given me my framework for how I treat my patients,” Jessica said. Every course she took contributed to her growth, helping her become more effective at identifying root causes, connecting multiple issues, and delivering longer-term results. “Every time I learned from a GLS course, I grew in what I bring to each patient,” she explained.

Jessica also emphasized the power of revisiting courses. “Sometimes even repeating courses gives you something new — whether it’s reviewing techniques, learning from different teachers, or refining your approach. It’s like reading a book again and getting something different the second time around.”

Launching Her Own Practice

Jessica’s expertise and entrepreneurial spirit caught the attention of a mentor at her clinic. “They saw the potential for what I could do in my area and helped me get started with my own practice,” she shared. Her background with GLS courses gave her the confidence and skills to provide effective, integrated care to her patients, even in a rural setting where such services were scarce.

Continuing Growth and Efficiency

For Jessica, learning never stops. She is always seeking new knowledge and ways to improve her practice. “I want to keep growing and learning, providing more for my clients, and seeing results faster,” she said. By continually expanding her skills, Jessica ensures her patients get the best care possible — and achieve their goals more efficiently.

Advice for Aspiring Practice Owners

Jessica also offers guidance for therapists thinking about starting their own practice: “Work for others first. Be mentored, grow in your skills and confidence, and learn what it takes behind the scenes of a practice.” Understanding marketing, finances, and patient flow are key pieces of the puzzle — knowledge that helps make a new practice viable, whether moving toward a cash-based model or navigating insurance.
