Most PT school programs only teach the actions of muscles. This course covers each muscle’s function and how to use anatomy to quickly find the driver of your patients’ dysfunction. You’ll learn how to palpate muscles to fix hypertonicity, weakness and inhibition so those dysfunctions don’t return, as well as evidence-based treatment for tendinosis and the functional retraining of muscles. All these techniques will enable you to direct your patients to a speedy and more successful recovery.

Participants should have a basic knowledge of anatomy as this is an applied anatomy course.

Come learn how to make an immediate impact with your patients, even if their symptoms have been present for an extended period of time. This course will help you identify joint mobility restrictions that can contribute to common extremity dysfunctions and diagnoses, from the shoulder to the foot, which are often overlooked. So, you’ll learn to find the true driver behind extremity dysfunction rather than just treating its symptoms. We focus on using joint mobilization to normalize the stress on the tissues around different joints to immediately decrease stress and secondary pain. These techniques will take your understanding of extremity mobilization far beyond what you learned in school, but with enough practice that you feel confident implementing them into your daily treatments.

Finding Dysfunction - EXPRESS

8:00am – Lecture: Introduction, Overview of the Keys to Finding Dysfunction

3:45pm – Lecture: Key Concepts with Finding Compensation Dysfunctions

4:45pm – Lecture: Applying the Join-Muscle-Fascia-Compensation (JMFC) Framework

5:15pm – Lecture: Case Studies and Speed Thinking using Pain Algorithms

5:30pm – Adjourn

This course will provide you with a unique yet systematic framework to finding the true cause of patients’ pain. You’ll learn to assess the body in a “global” way, looking beyond the local pain area to find dysfunctions elsewhere that could be causing the problem. The major focus points of this approach are the joint, muscle, fascial, and compensatory barriers a patient has (what we call the JMFC Framework) as well as the hypo-hyper compensation model, both in theory and on actual patient case studies. We know patients tend seek out therapists who have a great reputation for making a difference, and these simple frameworks will help you develop that reputation and help you get patients’ lives back. This course will cover how to identify key dysfunctions in the shoulder, elbow, wrist, hip, knee, ankle, and foot, as well as look at spinal referred pain.

Pelvic Floor Dysfunction - EXPRESS

8:00am – Lecture: Normal and abnormal function of the core and pelvic floor

5:15pm – Case study group work and overall review

5:30pm – Adjourn

95% of lower back pain patients have an associated pelvic floor dysfunction, which is not often considered in treatment. This course will help you learn how to rule in or out orthopedic conditions that may be influenced by the pelvic floor.

An evidenced-based beginner’s guide, this course will give you confidence in mastering basic diagnosis and treatment of pelvic floor dysfunction using a fully-clothed, external approach. Whether your decision to take the course is based on interest as a pelvic floor therapist or to help with lumbar/pelvic/hip orthopedic conditions in a less intrusive manner, this course provides a valuable introduction and will certainly apply to many patients who walk into your clinic.

Advanced Manual Therapy Concepts for the Spine - EXPRESS

Coming Soon!

Many of us are taught there is a single best approach to treat the spine. However, we know every patient responds differently to treatment techniques. After this course, you’ll have an entire toolbox you can utilize to find out what works best for each spine patient! This course is advanced in that it covers eclectic concepts and multiple different spinal treatment approaches, including MET, PA’s, coupled/non-coupled mobilizations, as well as combining mobilizations with movement for all components of the spine: cervical spine, thoracic spine, ribs, lumbar spine and pelvis.

The Basics of Sacroiliac Mobilization - EXPRESS

Coming Soon!

This course takes a complex region of the body, which is often not taught well in school, and simplifies its assessment and treatment approach. You’ll leave confident in your ability to assess and treat the SI joint with highly effective techniques that produce immediate results! We’ll break down the biomechanics of the pelvic girdle complex and how it contributes to low back pain, both theoretically and using specific case study examples. You’ll then practice several different diagnostic tests through static and movement assessments to help guide your treatment. Treatment techniques cover pubic, iliosacral, and sacral dysfunctions plus more, giving new and seasoned clinicians a comprehensive way of treating the area.

Mobilization of the Cervical and Thoracic Spine and Ribs - EXPRESS

Coming Soon!

Many clinicians lack a structured approach to treat dysfunctions involving the neck, shoulders and upper thoracic spine, while often overlooking rib cage involvement. This course will give you a strong foundation to treat these areas as well as an understanding of where to look next if you’re not getting the desired outcome with your spine patients.

We make a complicated region of the body simple to diagnose and treat, giving you a wide array of treatment approaches to choose from that best fit your patients’ needs. Techniques include Muscle Energy Technique (MET) and direct articulations to the cervical and thoracic spine and ribs. All course material is evidence-based and every technique is repeated multiple times until you feel comfortable and confident. When you leave this class, you’ll walk away with a straightforward, yet comprehensive foundation for treatment of the neck, upper back and ribs.

Comprehensive Treatment of the Knee - EXPRESS

Coming Soon!

This course solves the question of “What else can I do when I feel like I’ve tried everything for my knee patient?” We teach an entirely different way to treat the knee, with an emphasis on manual therapy. Treatment techniques include joint mobilizations, meniscal mobilizations and myofascial/soft tissue releases, as well as how to customize each mobilization to different patients and issues. Plus, multiple taping techniques will be demonstrated and practiced for dysfunctions at the patella and the tibio-femoral joints. You’ll also learn how dysfunctions above and below the knee can cause symptoms at the knee joint itself. Come learn how to feel confident you’ve left no stone unturned to accurately diagnose the root of knee issues!

MFR: Functional Integration - EXPRESS

Coming Soon!

Come learn an entirely new way to look at treating the soft-tissue system of the whole body! The focus of this course is to integrate myofascial release with movement. Through it, you’ll learn the physiological basis for muscle hypertonicity and fascial restrictions to help diagnose and treat the myofascial system, while also incorporating the peripheral nervous system, fascial system, and muscular system. Treatment is comprised of direct muscle releases while lengthening and shortening muscles, allowing the dysfunctional motor units to immediately start to work again in functional movement patterns. After the course, you’ll have the ability to effectively treat muscle and fascial restrictions to get ROM and strength gains, while helping pain subside quicker.
